Policies for educating Gifted and Talented students
The following two policies are designed by the Department of Education and Communities in aim to provide teachers with a clear and concise background about how to support students in their classrooms who are deemed to be of gifted and talented nature. The policy and implementation strategies document outlines ways teachers are expected to support these students through differentitating teaching strategies to cater to these learners needs. The guidelines for use of strategies to support these students document outlines ways these aims can be successfully and effectively carried out in the classroom during teaching and learning sequences.

Carol Tomlinson's career as an educator includes 21 years as a public school teacher, 12 years as a program administrator of special services for struggling and advanced learners, in which she believes in differentitation as an integral aspect to enhance our abilities as teachers to respond to individual student needs. Carol Tomlinson believes, the idea of differentiating instruction is an approach to teaching that advocates active planning for and attention to student differences in classrooms, in the context of high quality curriculums (Tomlinson, 2012). Examples of Differentiating for Gifted and Talented Learners during classroom practice
The following documents are as follows;
Differentiated unit of work; An example of a unit of work based on 'Living in Communities: life on the farm'. This unit has been developed in order to provide effective and high quality instruction for the gifted and talented learners within the classroom. Differentiation strategies have been used in the development of this unit through the inclusion of Bloom’s Revised Taxonomy and William’s Cognitive-Affective Model. Through the inclusion of each of these models, gifted and talented students will be impelled to develop and utilise their higher order and creative thinking skills, whilst also developing proficiency in solving real-world problems
Tuning into Blooms Taxonomy; The use of Bloom's Taxonomy as a theory for supporting differentiated learning is demonstrated within these examples to support gifted and talented students to provide them with an opportunity to move beyond what they are capable of reaching new heights in their learning journey.
Gifted and Talented Learning needs checklist; A checklist is provided for your use, to ensure that when working with gifted and talented students in the classroom, you are able to effectively meet the demanding needs of this type of learners abilities.
